Thomas L. Dahl, M.D.

Ophthalmologist and eye surgeon Thomas L. (Tommy) Dahl joined the staff of The Eye Surgery Center of Oak Ridge in September 2010, coming home to Oak Ridge after seven years of service in the U.S. Air Force.

An Oak Ridge native and 1993 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, he is the son of Tom and Betty Dahl. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Brigham Young University and is a 2003 graduate of James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University.

Board-certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Dahl is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

He spent seven years as an active duty U.S. Air Force officer and was the Ophthalmology Element leader at Eglin Air Force Base from 2007-2010. A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Dr. Dahl spent six months in 2009 as the only military ophthalmologist in Afghanistan, performing more than 300 trauma surgical procedures. He received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his service while deployed.

Dr. Dahl completed his internship and residency in ophthalmology at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas, where he served as chief resident and earned the Outstanding Resident award in 2007. He is a member of the staff at Methodist Medical Center

Dr. Dahl and his wife, Hannah, are parents to nine children and live in Knoxville.
