Dr. Tappan

Optometrist Paul W. Tappan received his undergraduate and professional degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. As a student, he successfully completed an externship rotation at the Bay Pines Veteran Administration Ambulatory Clinic in Tampa, Florida, as well as an internship at the Indiana University Contact Lens Research Clinic. During school, he also served as a teaching assistant for Clinical Procedures courses.

After graduating in 1982, Dr. Tappan worked as an associate in a practice in Menasha, Wisconsin, for one year, while making arrangements for his final move to east Tennessee. In 1984, Dr. Tappan joined Dr. Eugene Zuckerman's practice in Harriman, Tennessee, which was established in 1946. Dr. Zuckerman retired the following year, and Dr. Tappan continued a busy solo career with that practice until 1998. He then joined The Eye Centers, and continues his practice in Harriman, as well as practices part-time in Wartburg, Tennessee.

Dr. Tappan has enjoyed active involvement with Roane County's Michael Dunn Center for fifteen years, serving twice as Chairman of the Board. He also served on the Boards of Directors for the Michael Dunn Foundation and Dunn Diversified Industries. He is currently a member of the East Tennessee Optometric Society, the Tennessee Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.

Dr. Tappan and his wife, Debbie, enjoy hiking, camping and photography in the mountains of east Tennessee.
